Since Butterdocs talks a lot about their collaboration features, I was really excited about using this program for co-writing and novel editing for friends and clients! I am still very excited about it, however I have found there’s no feature for tracking changes in the documents when editing someone’s works.
In making a new “editor draft”, the author can see the changes I’ve made by going to the “merge drafts” screen, but this is a bit of a hassel and you can only accept or deny everything at once in order to merge, rather than accept/deny a few options, merge those and leave the rest for review. It also does not show me as the editor what I’ve changed unless I want to go to that merge screen. As an editor, I like to be able to see what I’ve changed in case I need to go back and revert that change or adjust it.
I think it’d be really nice to have a feature where we can see what changes have been made (sentences/words deleted, added, etc) while still in the “copy”, similar to the way google docs and word has this feature. It would really help on the editing side of things!
(If I am simply missing this feature, or I’m doing something incorrectly, I apologize. But after searching around and watching the tutorial videos, I haven’t been able to find a way to make this happen.)
Hi there, you can start tracking changes using the “Changes” toggle in the upper-right corner.
Yes! However, that still only shows me the new content I’ve changed it to, if that makes sense.
For example, if I change the sentence “I went outside” to “I went inside”, it will only highlight “inside” to show that I’ve changed that word, rather than showing me “outside” crossed out, and “inside” highlighted next to it the way track changes works in various other programs. When I go to “merge document” it does show the changes like this where I can see what got deleted and replaced, but it would be easier as an editor to see those changes in the actual draft, rather than just the “merge” page.

Agree:)

Yes, I’d love this feature too. It’s not a better alternative to Google Docs until you can actually see what changes you’re making to your draft and compare in real-time.
Yes, we need to be able to accept or deny changes individually!! Until this happens it isn’t worth leaving Word for me.
